Ventilation: Who Needs It?

September 9, 2021 By Staff Writer Leave a Comment

Although there is really only one type of air, there are, in effect, several types depending on what we need it to do. Ventilation air provides the necessary removal of excess moisture, carbon dioxide, etc. Make-up air comes in from the outside to replace exhaust. Combustion air is used with fossil-fueled appliances. Today’s HVAC systems are well designed, but older buildings tend to be leaky. HRVs (heat recovery ventilators) and ERVs (energy recovery ventilators) are solutions for residential buildings. • Fresh oxygenated air for building inhabitants while maintaining reduced levels of HVAC is mandatory for our health and comfort.
  • Unregulated ventilation causes HVAC systems to consume more electricity we’re supposed to be saving.
  • Balancing the ventilation is more important than most people realize. Clean air is essential in our lives! But, unfortunately, modern homes can be TOO TIGHT, allowing contaminates to clog our lunges.

“Humans respire some 30 lbs. of air daily while we spend almost 90% of our lives indoors.”
